Old-timer at the hangar said I was overthinking my wire bundles
Guy's been doing avionics since the 80s and told me I spend too much time making bundles look pretty. He said ‘as long as it passes the tug test and won't chafe, nobody cares how it looks.’ Been trying to speed up my work since - has anyone else had to unlearn the perfectionist stuff from A&P school?

Whoa, hold up - that friction tape guy sounds like a nightmare waiting to happen though! I get the point about not obsessing over looks, but there's gotta be a middle ground between factory-perfect and just slapping things together with tape. Did that old-timer give you any actual tips on what specifically to stop worrying about, or did he just say "stop caring so much"? Cause I feel like there's a difference between not wasting time and being straight-up reckless.

Took me a solid year to stop making my bundles look like they came out of a factory. I used to think every tie wrap had to be perfectly spaced and every bend exact. Then I spent a week helping a guy who just twisted wires together with friction tape and called it good. Never had a single failure. Now I just focus on making sure it's secure and won't rub through, and I get done way faster.
