Had to pick between swapping a Garmin G500 vs rebuilding my old King KX155 last week

Went with the G500 since parts for the King are getting harder to find, and after 8 hours of bench work it fired right up first try. Anyone else run into this with older panel gear?

Picked the G500 myself a few months back for the same reason. Parts for the old King stuff are getting too hard to find and too expensive when you do find them. The Garmin just works out of the box and the install was pretty straightforward. The old gear had its place but it's time to let it go. No regrets so far with the swap.

You ever mess up an install so bad you had to call a buddy to come bail you out...? That was me with my first Garmin swap. I wired the display backwards and spent two hours staring at a blank screen before I realized the power cable was in upside down. The manual made it look simple enough but I guess concrete guys aren't meant for avionics. At least I didn't set anything on fire this time.
