Had to choose between a $4000 bench power supply or a cheaper unit for testing a new EFIS install

Honestly, I used to cheap out on tools too. But for something as critical as avionics, that clean, stable power is worth every penny. It just removes one huge variable when you're troubleshooting.

My buddy's old power supply fried a whole flight panel, which is why I get what @jade_hernandez is saying now.

That's the thing people forget, a bad power supply can slowly cook parts over time. It's not always a big pop and smoke. You get weird voltage drift that makes a board act up for months before it finally dies. Makes you chase ghosts in the wiring when the real problem was on the bench the whole time.
