A senior tech told me to stop using dielectric grease on cannon plugs

He said it traps moisture and causes corrosion over time, especially on aircraft that cycle through humidity changes. Now I only use it on the backshell threads and leave the pins dry. Has anyone else gotten conflicting advice on this?

My buddy Mike over at Atlantic Aviation swore by dielectric grease on everything for years until he pulled a cannon plug on a Gulfstream that had been sitting in a Florida hangar for 6 months. The pins were all green and crusty inside, totally corroded even though the outer seal looked fine. He spent 3 hours with contact cleaner and a magnifying glass trying to save that harness. Now he only puts a tiny dab on the threads too and leaves the pins bone dry, says he learned that lesson the hard way.

Yeah Ive seen that exact thing happen. I switched to a very thin film of silicone grease on the threads only after a similar mess with some D-sub connectors on a King Air. The seal o-ring does its job fine on its own, so I just wipe the pins clean with isopropyl and leave them bare. Makes the next pull way easier too because the threads dont seize up.
