A retired Navy guy told me to always check the cannon plug seals first on a comms fault, and he saved me two hours on a King Air last Friday.
I was chasing a static-filled audio issue on a King Air 200 in Tulsa, and after checking the usual suspects (headset jacks, audio panel) for an hour, I remembered his advice, found a cracked seal on the main radio tray connector, replaced it, and the problem cleared right up, so what's the best 'old timer' tip you've actually used?

Ever check the battery terminals for that weird avionics reset?

Check the battery terminals? I wish my problems were that simple. Last time my avionics acted up, I spent an hour checking every connection before realizing I'd just bumped the master switch off with my knee. Felt like a total genius after that one. I'm starting to think half these gremlins are just me being clumsy.

Yeah Ive had that exact battery terminal thing cause a reset. Cleaning them up and tightening the clamps fixed it for me.
