Pro tip: calling the carrier directly instead of the broker saved my move to Austin
I needed a car shipped from Phoenix to Austin last month and got quotes from three brokers that ranged from $650 to $900. On a hunch I looked up the actual trucking company that one broker used and called them straight. The dispatcher gave me $525 and picked the car up two days later. My guess is the broker was adding a couple hundred bucks on top, but your mileage may vary depending on the route. I also asked the driver to text me a photo at pickup, which helped a lot since I could not be there in person. Has anyone else skipped the broker and gone straight to the carrier, and did it actually work out cheaper for you?
