My insurance guy offhand told me to skip the cheapest quote, and his reason stuck with me
I was on the phone with my insurance agent Dave last Tuesday getting a quote for moving my truck from Kansas City to Denver, and he asked why I wasn't using one of those $450 brokers. I told him the price was the price, and he laughed and said the cheap ones just resell your job to whoever bids lowest, so you have no idea who is actually touching your truck. He said he sees claims all the time from people who booked through a cut rate site and got stuck waiting 9 days for pickup. My brother in law paid $700 last summer and his car showed up in 2 days with the same driver the whole way, which I never connected to that until now. So now I'm wondering if the extra $250 is really buying me peace of mind or if Dave is just looking out for his own shop. Has anyone here actually had a good experience with a cheap broker, or is that just asking for trouble?
Man, your agent is not wrong and I learned that the hard way. I booked a cheap broker two years ago to move my car from Phoenix to Seattle and it was a mess. They took my deposit then bounced me between three different dispatch people and the pickup kept getting pushed back. It finally showed up six days late and the guy driving had no clue what he was doing. I paid $1,100 for what should have been a $600 job and still had to fight them for weeks to get anything back. That extra money gets you a real person who knows where your truck is at all times, and that is worth way more than a few hundred bucks.
