Can we talk about picking open transport over enclosed for a 1,400 mile move to Denver?
Back in 2009 I shipped my Civic from Tampa to Denver and the only real choice was open trailer for $650 or enclosed for $1,100, and I went with the cheap one. The dispatcher kept saying open was fine for a daily driver and honestly he was right about most things, but nobody warned me about the top of the car. It showed up 6 days later with a fine coat of dust and one small chip on the hood that I'm pretty sure came from a gravel truck on I-70. My buddy paid the extra for his Mustang the same month and his car came out spotless, so I've always wondered if I just got unlucky. Now I see quotes for that same run at like $1,400 for open and it's wild how much this stuff has gone up. I still think open makes sense for anything you actually drive every day, but that hood chip bugs me every time I wash it. Anyone here ever pay for enclosed and still end up with damage? Trying to figure out if it's really worth the gap.
Hate to say it but enclosed doesn't mean damage-proof, cars still get bumped and scraped in there. Dust is the main thing you're paying to avoid, not every possible chip.
