Pro tip: shipping my car in an enclosed trailer vs open carrier for a 1,400 mile haul, and the $600 difference was worth it | Auto Transport Discussion - Hub Chatter
My buddy Rick shipped a 68 Camaro from Phoenix to Seattle a few years back on an open carrier and the driver called him from a truck stop in Oregon because the tarp had rubbed the paint down to bare metal on the rear quarter. Cost him about a grand to fix and the shipping company fought him on it for months. He did enclosed on the way back when he moved and it showed up exactly how it left. That 600 bucks sounds like cheap insurance to me.
