Door to door pickup turned into a terminal meetup, carrier blamed the truck size
I booked a door to door move for my Corolla from Austin to Denver, paid extra for the convenience. On pickup day the driver calls and says his rig is too long for my street, wants me to meet him at a truck stop 20 miles away. I argued for a bit but eventually caved since I had no backup plan. Delivery side was worse, he dropped it at a parking lot near my apartment because the bed of his trailer would hit low trees. Learned that "door to door" in the fine print means "as close as the driver decides." The refund for the difference took five weeks and three phone calls. Has anyone else had a carrier switch the service level mid-booking without telling you first?

Guess my Corolla needed more exercise than I thought.

I see it a little different. You mentioned the fine print, but most auto transport contracts I've dealt with do spell out that the carrier picks a safe spot for pickup and delivery. That "door to door" label has always been more of a marketing term to me, not a promise to back into your driveway. A 20 mile meetup is frustrating, sure, but low trees and a long trailer are real issues the driver has to deal with. I've had two moves where the final drop was a parking lot a few blocks from my house, and honestly I preferred that over the driver scraping his equipment or getting stuck.
