DAE notice how much faster quotes come back now that I stopped calling brokers?
Honestly I used to spend 3 or 4 days chasing quotes and getting the runaround from brokers who would promise a pickup date then call back and move it. Last month I shipped my son's truck from Tucson to Kansas City and tried something different. I called three actual carriers straight off their DOT numbers instead of going through a broker, and I had a firm price in 2 hours flat. The big change was the deposit. With the carriers I dealt with, the number they gave on the phone was the number on the signed sheet, no renegotiating at pickup. Back in February I had a broker quote me $850 then the driver showed up wanting $1,150 before he would load it. Anyone else seen the gap between broker quotes and carrier quotes shrink like this, or did I just get lucky with who I called?
