Broker charged me $850 extra for a 'fuel surcharge' I never agreed to
Had a car shipped from Phoenix to Portland last week and the driver showed up demanding cash before unloading, said it was in the fine print of the contract I signed online. Found out the broker I booked through was just a middleman who never passed along my original quote, so now I'm stuck disputing it with my credit card company. Has anyone else had a broker pull a surprise fee after pickup, and how did you fight it?

That "fuel surcharge" line is a classic. I had a buddy ship a truck from Denver to Chicago and the driver hit him with a $200 "gate fee" at drop off, cash only, no receipt. He paid it because his truck was sitting on the street and he just wanted it gone. He tried to fight it after and the broker just stopped answering emails. Credit card chargeback was the only thing that got him anywhere, so you're on the right track.

How do these brokers even sleep at night? My cousin went through almost the exact same thing moving a car from Phoenix to Seattle. Driver showed up and said there was a $150 "after hours fee" even though it was 2pm on a Tuesday. She paid cash because the guy literally had her car on the truck and was about to drive off with it. Broker ghosted her for weeks after. She ended up doing a chargeback and got her money back in like 10 days. Makes you wonder how many people just eat the cost because they don't know they can fight it.
