Warning: paid $89 for a "paint match" app that gave me the wrong tint on a silver Camry
I do small collision work out of my garage in Toledo and a silver 2013 Camry came in with a scuffed rear door. I figured a phone app that scans paint and spits out a formula would save me a trip to the jobber. It told me to mix it a shade darker and the door came out straight brownish next to the factory silver. I ate the cost of the base coat, the clear, and two days of my own time redoing it. Now I just drive the 20 minutes to my guy at the paint store and have him shoot it with a camera. Has anyone else gotten burned by one of these scan apps or is it just me doing something dumb?
