My buddy's '72 Tele neck took three weeks just to stop feeling tacky, lol.

Are you kidding me? A week is nothing for a proper vintage repair, some of those old fillers and primers need that long to gas out and cure fully. Rushing it is how you end up with a shrink sink or a fisheye right in the middle of your paint job next month. That's just the time it takes to do it right.
