Vent: Why heat guns won me over for paint prep

I always avoided them, thinking they'd ruin the sheet metal. Now I see they save hours and do no harm with proper technique.

My friend Jake had this old Ford pickup he was fixing up. He wasted a full weekend scraping paint by hand, getting nowhere. His neighbor finally talked him into trying a heat gun on the hood. Jake kept it on low heat and kept it moving so it wouldn't burn the metal. He stripped the whole hood clean in about forty minutes. He said it changed how he does every project now.

Forty minutes is crazy fast, heat guns beat chemical strippers any day.

That story from @the_jordan about Jake is both funny and sad. Spending a whole weekend scraping paint by hand is like using a spoon to dig a pool. Heat guns turn a nightmare job into a quick fix, no nasty chemicals needed. Forty minutes for a hood? Chemical strippers would still be bubbling by then. Some people just love to make work harder than it has to be.
