Showerthought: Heard a kid at the parts counter call a slide hammer a 'dinosaur tool' and it got me thinking about all the old-school stuff we still rely on.
I still use my dad's old shrinking disc from the 80s for certain curves, and it works better than any new electric one I've tried, so what's one piece of 'outdated' gear you guys still keep on the bench?

Just a piece of steel you spin" is exactly the point. The new electric ones have digital readouts and safety sensors. They try to fix what isn't broken. My grandpa's old manual bead roller is the same. No computer, just gears and leverage. It feels more direct, and I trust it not to glitch out.

Keep some spare belts and a grease gun handy if you pick up an old one. Learned that the hard way when I had to fab a belt on the side of the road once.

Is a shrinking disc really that outdated? It's just a piece of steel you spin. Seems like calling it dinosaur tech is a stretch for something that simple.
