Old timer at NAPA told me to mark my own gun before any car color match
Had this crusty painter named Ray down at the NAPA store on Route 9 in Danbury ask me why my fender repair looked off. He grabbed my spray gun, scratched his initials on the fluid tip with a pocket knife, and said 'now you know it's yours, never trust a shared gun for clearcoat.' I thought it was silly until I borrowed a buddy's gun last Tuesday and the fan pattern was totally different, cost me a re-spray on a silver Civic. Anyone else got little shop rituals that seem dumb but actually save your ass?
