My buddy had a similar thing happen with an old Navy guy who taught him how to tie knots on a beat up sailboat. Took three afternoons just to get the bowline right because the guy insisted on doing it the "proper" way from 1962. Truck or boat, some people just gotta pass along their wisdom real slow like that. Guess it's their way of making sure you actually remember it instead of just rushing through.
