Noticed a shift in how people color match plastic bumpers...

Back in 2019, most shops I saw would just spray the whole bumper cover, but now I'm seeing way more blend jobs on adjacent panels. Is that just because of cheaper clearcoat options or are guys getting better at reading variants on the fly?

Shops have always blended when the color was off, nothing changed besides better paint systems exposing old shortcuts.

Respectfully disagree. Modern paint systems just show more flaws but shops have always had to blend when a color didn't match, that's not really a shortcut it's the job.
