Had to pick between a $600 paint job or doing it myself last month

I was staring at a 2012 Civic with peeling clear coat, and the estimate came back at $600 for a single panel. I grabbed a $40 can of matched paint from Napa, did the sanding and blending in my driveway, and honestly it looks good enough from 10 feet. Anyone else ever roll the dice on a rattle can job and get lucky?

Oh man, that's basically the gamble I took on my buddy's old Forester last spring. Did you wet sand between coats or just spray and pray? I found out the hard way that if you skip the 600-grit in between, you end up with orange peel that catches every bit of sunlight.

I did the same thing on my old truck and it came out decent for a driveway job. Key was taking my time with the sanding and letting each coat dry fully before the next one. It's been two years and the paint is still holding up fine.
