Got a 2008 Civic quarter panel to line up by heating the pinch weld with a torch

The new panel just would not sit flush, leaving a gap you could see a mile away. I put a little heat on the factory pinch weld area for about 30 seconds with my oxy-acetylene torch, tapped it with a hammer, and it pulled right into place. Anyone else ever use heat to get stubborn factory spot welds to relax?

Watched my buddy fight a Tacoma bed side for an entire afternoon. He finally got mad, hit the factory flange with a rosebud for a minute, gave it a solid whack with a dolly, and the whole thing just sucked down like magic. Said the metal must have had some crazy tension from the factory spot welds.

Classic case of the angry fix. Sometimes you just gotta show the metal who's boss, huh?

Oh man, that makes total sense. I read somewhere that factory spot welds can lock in a ton of stress from the stamping process. Heating it lets the metal relax back to its original shape, so that one whack does the work of fifty careful taps. It's wild how sometimes the brute force method is actually the smart one.
