Customer brought in a 2005 Civic with a shopping cart wedged under it last Tuesday

Guy drives into my shop in Portland with a whole Safeway cart stuck under his bumper. Dragged it three miles making sparks. Said he hit it backing out and just kept going. Anyone else get stuff like this that makes you wonder how people think?

My buddy Dave once found a whole street sign stuck under his girlfriend's Corolla. She drove six blocks with it scraping and said she thought it was just a loose heat shield. We pulled that sign out and it had her car's paint color on the edge where it dug in for days.

Did he say anything about the sparks or noise, or did he just sit there silent when you showed him the cart? I'm trying to picture the moment you lifted the car and he saw the bent metal and scraped paint. Was there any point where he admitted it was a dumb move, or did he double down on the whole "I just needed to get to work" thing?

Ask him how far he thought he could get before that cart shredded his gas tank or started a fire. I've seen people ignore dash lights for months, but dragging a metal shopping cart down the road takes a special level of not giving a damn. Was the scraping sound not a clue, or did he just crank up the radio? Three miles of sparks and noise and he's thinking "this is fine" the whole time. Really makes you question what else he's ignoring in his life.
