Warning: That friendly old lady at the Dekalb Farmers Market food court might be a pickpocket
I was grabbing a quick lunch there last Saturday around 1pm, real crowded. This sweet looking grandma asked me if I could watch her bag while she went to get a cup of water. I said sure, no problem, she seemed harmless. But I noticed her eyes kept darting to my jacket pocket where my phone was. When she came back, she thanked me and walked off. Ten minutes later I reached for my phone and it was gone. I felt stupid, but I tracked it with Find My and it was pinging from an address in Decatur. Had to file a police report and everything. That place is so busy, I bet she works that move on people every weekend. Has anyone else had a weird encounter near the produce section or the fish counter there?

You know someone this happened to? My friend Sarah had almost the exact same thing happen to her at the H-Mart in Doraville, except it was an old guy near the kimchi section who asked her to hold his grocery bag for a second. She said no because she had a bad feeling, then noticed him hovering by her cart later when she turned around for rice crackers. Her wallet was still there but she said it creeped her out how smooth they are.

Read a CrimeJunkie podcast about a guy doing the bag trick at grocery stores, @paige514.
