Three years ago, the chat was full of people helping each other find a good plumber. Now it's just ads for crypto.

My neighbor tried to ask for a roofer recommendation last week. He got three replies, all from bots pushing some new coin. He ended up calling the guy who fixed his gutters ten years ago, because at least he knew that was a real person. It just feels like the useful parts of the internet are getting paved over. The small talk and help that made a place feel like a community is gone. Now it's just a billboard.

My local Facebook group is just crypto bots and people selling used mattresses now. I asked about a plumber last month and got two replies telling me to invest in something called DrainCoin.

And I saw this article the other day about how these AI bots are basically farming Facebook groups now for engagement data. Apparently the whole "used mattress" thing is just a low-effort way to appear human while they wait to hit you with the crypto pitch. One guy in the comments said he got spammed by a bot selling "PipeCoin" after asking about a burst pipe emergency. It's wild that the internet we built for connection is now just a hunting ground for these garbage schemes. Makes you wonder how long before real people just give up and leave these spaces completely.
