PSA: The MARTA escalator at Five Points ate my shoe and taught me a lesson about rush hour
So last Tuesday I'm running late for work, like 8:47am late, and I'm flying down the escalator at Five Points station because my train was already pulling in. I had on these cheap slip-on shoes I got from that place in Greenbriar Mall for $25, and the front of my right shoe caught the edge of the step right as it flattened out at the bottom. The stupid thing folded under the comb plate and wedged in there while the steps kept moving, and I'm standing there with one foot stuck and people behind me yelling. A MARTA worker named Darnell saw the whole thing, hit the emergency stop, and helped me yank my foot out, but my shoe was shredded and my sock had a hole in it. I rode to work with one shoe on and one shoe in my bag like a fool, and my boss asked me twice if I was okay. Turns out the whole thing could've been avoided if I just took the stairs or held the handrail instead of checking my phone. Now I want to know, has anybody else had a close call on those escalators, or am I the only one who learned this the hard way?
