My buddy at the Grant Park farmers market told me to never buy peaches before June, but I found some great ones in May

He said all the early stuff is hard and flavorless, so I waited. But last May, I grabbed a basket from a vendor at the East Atlanta Village market and they were perfect. Now I'm split between trusting his rule or just trying stuff when I see it. What's your go-to move for finding good local peaches?

Ever notice how many "rules" for living are just one person's bad day turned into advice? Your buddy had a bad early peach once. I get it. But weather changes, farms differ. My move is to ask the vendor directly which variety they're selling and if they're tree-ripened. That tells you more than any calendar date.

Exactly, it's like the old rule about not buying tomatoes before July. My grandpa swore by it, but now with greenhouses and different breeds, I get great ones in May. Those rigid rules miss how much farming has changed. Asking questions cuts through all the old guesses. You learn what actually makes fruit taste good right now.

@gavinhunt makes a solid point about how farming has changed everything. Your grandpa's rules made sense for the produce he knew, but that knowledge gets outdated faster than people realize. Asking questions is the only way to keep up with what's actually good right now.
