My air conditioner died on the hottest day of the year in Midtown

Last Tuesday the temperature hit 98 here in Atlanta and right when I got home from work my AC unit just stopped. It was making this weird grinding noise for a few days before but I kept putting off calling someone to look at it. I spent the whole evening with all my windows open and three fans going but it still felt like an oven inside. Ended up sleeping on the couch with a wet towel over me just to cool down enough to get any rest. Next morning I called three different HVAC places and the soonest anyone could come was two days later. The guy finally showed up and said the capacitor had blown and it was a simple fix but I could have saved myself a lot of misery if I'd called sooner. Anyone else here ever ignore a weird sound from their AC until it totally gave out?

Did you check if your home insurance covers emergency AC repair? Some policies actually have a clause for sudden breakdowns during extreme weather that can get you a same day service call with just a copay. Saved me a ton of stress when mine went out in July a few years back and I only found out after digging through the fine print lol.

Wait, you actually had a clause for AC breakdowns in your homeowner's policy?
