Had to pick between Kroger and Publix for dinner last night and made the wrong call
I was out of gas and starving, so I stopped at Kroger on Howell Mill because it was closer. Grabbed their premade chicken teriyaki bowl (which is usually fine) and a salad kit. The chicken was rubbery and the rice was dry, like it had been sitting since Tuesday. Should I just bite the bullet and drive the extra mile to Publix next time, or are their bowls also a crapshoot now?

Man that's a BUMMER about the Kroger teriyaki bowl. I've had the same experience there with their premade stuff being hit or miss. Publix is definitely worth the extra mile for their deli counter bowls, those are usually fresh and the chicken is actually moist. But even Publix has been slipping lately with their sushi bowls, so I'd stick to their hot food section if you go. Also, check the date stickers on those Kroger bowls next time, sometimes they put out older stock later in the day.

...and the weird thing is I had a Kroger teriyaki bowl like a year ago that was actually decent. Then I got one a few months back and it was like they'd changed the recipe or something. The chicken was dry and the sauce was watery. I started going to Sprouts instead for their pre-made stuff. It's a little more expensive but at least it's consistent. I've noticed Publix too though, their hot food counter isn't what it used to be. Last time I got their fried chicken it was sitting under the heat lamp too long.
