Got roasted on my fence staining technique by a neighbor who does decks for a living
He straight up told me I was using the wrong brush and that the streaky look meant I was overloading it. Switched to a smaller angled brush and went with the grain instead of back and forth, total game changer. Anyone else got a pro tip from someone watching you work?

Had a guy walk by when I was painting my own fence and he just stopped and watched for a minute... then told me I was pushing the brush too hard and making it look all patchy. He said let the bristles do the work and use less pressure, just let the paint flow out naturally. Tried it on the next section and yeah, way smoother finish without those weird lines. Also learned to dip the brush about a third of the way up instead of dunking it halfway, keeps the paint from dripping everywhere.

Read that dipping a brush too deep ruins it, the third rule really helps with control.

Bruh that brush pressure tip is gold. I always thought you had to push hard to get the paint on there but it just makes a mess. The dip depth thing too, I used to dunk it like a donut and ended up with paint all over my hands. Switched to a smaller brush and went with the grain, night and day difference. No more streaks or weird patches, just a clean finish that actually looks professional.
