That guy at the star party kept saying his phone photos were better than my telescope shots

He was bragging about some new phone with AI stacking mode and literally compared a 10 second hand held shot to my 3 minute tracked exposure of Andromeda. I didn't even know how to respond without sounding like a jerk. Am I just old school or is there really no substitute for actual aperture and tracking?

Respectfully, I see it differently. A phone shot is just a snapshot, not real astrophotography. You can get a decent phone pic of the moon or Orion if you're lucky, but there's no replacement for a real telescope with tracking and a big aperture. Andromeda with any phone is just a faint smudge, even with AI stacking, while your 3 minute tracked exposure would show dust lanes and detail he can't even imagine. Why not invite him to actually look through your scope next time and see what he's missing?
