Shot the same nebula with my phone on a tripod vs 40 stacked frames, the difference floored me
Last weekend I finally tried stacking for the first time on the Orion Nebula from my backyard in Boise. My first attempt was a single 10 second shot on my phone clamped to a cheap tripod, and it looked like a gray smudge with maybe a hint of pink. Then I took 40 shots at 8 seconds each and stacked them in Siril, and the running man and the trapezium just popped out with actual color. The single frame had maybe 5 stars visible, the stack showed around 60 in the same patch of sky. I thought stacking was just for people with fancy mounts but even my wobbly setup worked. Has anyone else had luck stacking phone shots, or is a dedicated camera really that much better for this?
