Picked a DSLR over a mirrorless for my first deep sky shot and it paid off
I had to choose between a Canon 6D and a Sony A7III for astrophotography under Bortle 4 skies and went with the Canon because the battery lasted way longer on cold nights, and after 3 sessions I got a clean Andromeda without any weird sensor noise has anyone else noticed mirrorless cameras drain faster once the temp drops?

Honestly gotta disagree pretty hard here. I've been shooting deep sky with a Sony A7III for two years now and battery life is totally fine if you just carry a couple spares. Never had sensor noise issues either, even shooting in 20 degree weather. The mirrorless gives you way better live view for framing and focusing which is a huge deal when you're trying to nail a faint galaxy at 2am. Plus the A7III has way less amp glow than most DSLRs in my experience. Not saying the Canon is bad but mirrorless isn't some huge sacrifice for astro.

Way less amp glow than most DSLRs" - wait, you're seriously saying that Sony does something better than a Canon for astro?
