Old DSLR vs my phone for Milky Way shots, film days nostalgia
I dug out my Canon 60D from 2012 last weekend to compare against my Pixel 7 for wide field astro. Back in 2015 I was stacking 30 second exposures at ISO 3200 in a dark spot near Flagstaff, Arizona and the noise was brutal. The phone did a decent single frame but the 60D with a 14mm f/2.8 still pulled way more color and detail in the core. Truth is I miss the hassle of hauling a tripod and intervalometer, it made me slow down and frame things proper. Anyone else still hold onto an old camera just for the feel of it over convenience? What's your go to body for astro these days?
