My whole night of astrophotography got wrecked by a single loose cable

Last Saturday, I was set up in my backyard for a 4-hour shoot of the Orion Nebula. Everything was perfect, clear skies and all. After about 90 minutes, I checked the camera and saw nothing but black frames. The USB cable from my laptop to the camera mount had wiggled loose. Lost all that integration time. Had to pack it in because the target had moved. Anyone have a solid way to secure those cables so this never happens again?

Ugh, why do cables always betray us at the worst time?

I read somewhere that some astrophotographers use those little sticky cable clips to route cables along the tripod legs before they even reach the gear. Keeps everything flush so there's less chance of a snag in the dark. Also heard of people taping the USB plug to the camera body with a small piece of gaffer tape, just enough to hold it in place without leaving residue. The zip tie trick sounds solid too, anything that adds a little friction or a backup anchor point is probably worth trying. Might be overkill but losing a whole night's work hurts enough to justify it.

Last year I lost three hours on the Andromeda galaxy because my dew heater cable came unplugged from the battery. I started using those little Velcro cable ties to strap everything together into one thick bundle. It doesn't look pretty, but now if something gets tugged, the whole bundle moves instead of a single plug popping out. I even put a small zip tie around the USB port on my camera as a safety loop.
