Hot take: Judging our club's photo contest showed me how editing kills the real sky
Last weekend, I helped pick the best shots from our astronomy group's yearly contest. Every single picture was so heavily tweaked that it looked fake, not like the stars I see with my own eyes. When did we start valuing flashy software over showing the actual night sky?

My buddy entered his first contest and got told his raw shot 'wasn't processed enough to compete.'

That's a weird standard for a photo contest honestly.

That comment about your buddy's raw shot not being "processed enough" really hits home. It's like we're not even judging photos of space anymore, we're judging who's best at using sliders in software. I saw one entry where someone turned a faint nebula into a neon pink cloud. That's not what's up there. It feels like we're losing the quiet truth of a real dark sky for something loud and fake.
