That guy who told me to check my roof flashing was right
Random neighbor named Hank said my brown ceiling spot was from bad flashing near the chimney, not a pipe leak. I put it off for 3 months and now I'm looking at a $1,200 water damage repair. Anyone else ignore someone and pay for it later?

You're really gonna sit there and tell me you "put it off for 3 months" then act like Hank's advice was some kind of revelation? Sounds like you got lazy and now you're blaming the guy for being right. $1200 is a lot, sure, but that's on you for not taking five minutes to check the flashing when he first pointed it out. Roof issues don't magically fix themselves, and you probably could've saved half that if you'd acted sooner.

Did I miss the memo where paying $1200 for ignoring a leak is somehow Hank's fault?

Put it off for 3 months" says it all right there. Hank told you about a leak and you sat on it for a quarter of a year. That's not bad luck, that's just ignoring good advice.
You paid $1200 because you waited until water damage turned a simple fix into a full repair. How long did you think the roof was gonna hold with a known problem?
