Showerthought: I was asking questions all wrong in my support group

For months, I'd just ask 'how are you?' and get one-word answers. Last Tuesday, someone said 'ask me about my weekend project' and the whole conversation opened up. What's a better way to get people talking?

I mean it's all about asking specific stuff, right? "How are you" is basically a dead end question that nobody wants to answer for real. You gotta ask about something concrete, like what they're watching or if they tried that new coffee place. It gives people a real hook to grab onto instead of just saying "fine." Maybe it's just me but I've noticed people love talking about the small, weird details of their day way more than their big feelings.

Totally agree! Specific questions unlock way better conversations. People light up when you ask about their weird lunch or a show they're into. It's like giving them a key to a more interesting part of their brain.
