Overheard a guy at Starbucks say compostable cups are a scam and now I can't stop thinking about it
So I'm waiting for my usual cold brew and some dude is telling his friend that most 'compostable' cups don't actually break down in regular landfills because they need special facilities that barely exist. I looked it up after and yeah, he's basically right. Half the places that take them just toss them anyway. Makes me wonder if I'm wasting effort splitting my trash for nothing. Has anyone actually found a coffee shop that sends these things to a real composting center near them?

Read a study saying 90% of compostable cups end up in regular trash anyway.

It's pretty wild how much of the "green" stuff out there is more about making us feel good than actually helping. Like you see all these companies switching to paper straws and compostable lids but the whole system isn't set up to handle them right. Most people just toss em in the regular bin without even thinking about it. Kinda feels like we're just shifting the guilt around instead of fixing the real problem with how we use stuff.
