Noticed people keep calling every 90s movie a masterpiece

Been browsing forums and comment sections lately and I keep seeing folks throw around the word 'masterpiece' for any movie from the 90s. I grew up in that decade, watched tons of stuff on VHS from Blockbuster. Not everything holds up. I sat through 'The Pest' with John Leguizamo a few months back and man, that thing is a mess. A real masterpiece should have strong writing and direction that lasts. I think people just get nostalgic because they saw it as a kid and it hits different now. But calling every 90s action flick or comedy a masterpiece waters down the term for stuff that actually deserves it, like 'Goodfellas' or 'Schindlers List'. Has anyone else rewatched an old favorite and realized it wasn't as good as you remembered?

The 90s had like 500 movies released a year, so calling them all masterpieces is just lazy.

Exactly @park.troy, I hear you. People lump everything from that decade together and it drives me crazy, the ratio of good to bad was probably the same as any other time.
