I was putting my leftovers in the fridge still hot for years, then my power bill dropped $22
Honestly I always thought you had to let food cool down on the counter or it would wreck the fridge. Then a buddy who fixes appliances told me that old rule comes from when fridges were way weaker, and modern ones handle a warm pot just fine. He also said leaving food out for an hour is exactly how you get sick, since bacteria double every 20 minutes in that range. So I started putting stuff in while it was still steaming, in shallow containers instead of one deep pot. My electric bill went from $118 to $96 the next billing cycle, which surprised me since I wasn't even trying to save power. Has anyone else been told the cool it first thing and just kept doing it out of habit?
