Chased a weird noise in my car for 6 months before a mechanic laughed at me
I had this faint rattling sound coming from under my Honda whenever I hit bumps. I checked the exhaust, looked at the suspension, even tightened the heat shields twice. I spent maybe $200 on parts I didn't need and wasted a whole Saturday in my driveway. Finally took it to a shop in Cleveland after I got fed up, and the guy points at my license plate bracket. It was loose. The bolt had backed out halfway. He tightened it for free in like 30 seconds. I felt like such a fool for not just looking at the simple stuff first. Has anyone else spent way too long troubleshooting something that turned out to be completely obvious?

My buddy Mike had a weird vibration in his F-150 for almost a year. He replaced motor mounts, checked the driveshaft, the whole deal. @henry_webb68 it sounds like we all have that one blind spot. Turns out his kid had stuffed a bunch of those toy plastic army men into the little cubby under the radio and one was just rattling loose.
