Bumped into an old professor at a coffee shop and he totally flipped my thinking on something

I ran into my old psychology professor last week at a cafe downtown and he casually mentioned that he now thinks most 'personality types' are just lazy labels for mood swings. He said people change so much year to year that calling someone an 'introvert' is like calling a kid a 'crayon eater' just because they tried one once. Has anyone else had a conversation that made you scrap a whole way of seeing things?

Are people really that defined by a coffee shop chat?

not sure i'd say defined by it @henryf53, but a first impression is still a first impression. people are quick to judge, and that coffee shop chat is often the only window they get into who you are. it's not fair, but it's real. your mileage may vary, but i've seen plenty of opportunities hinge on how someone came across in those first 15 minutes.
