Blew a fuse in my apartment elevator story, no pun intended

Last month I was stuck in my building's elevator in Austin for about 40 minutes after the power flickered during a storm. The thing stopped between floors and the emergency phone just rang and rang, no answer. I ended up calling the fire department from my cell, and they got me out by prying the doors open with a tool. Turned out the building's backup battery was dead, which is why the phone didn't work. Has anyone else had a scary elevator moment and what did you do while waiting?
