Wasted $25 on a set of mislabeled oil pastels last month

I picked up a bundle of 24 'professional grade' oil pastels from a discount bin at a hobby shop in Portland and got home to find half of them were just wax crayons in disguise. They dont blend at all and I ruined a nice piece of toned paper trying to work with them. Anyone else get burned by cheap art supplies that claimed to be something they weren't?

Learned this one the hard way too. Check the label for 'oil pastel' vs 'oil crayon' before buying. Oil pastels should feel buttery and soft right out of the box. If the paper wrapper feels waxy or plasticky, it's a dead giveaway. Sticking with known brands like Mungyo or Sennelier for the real stuff. Also test one on scrap paper before touching good paper next time.
