Traded a half-used tube of titanium white for a set of brushes and one of them shed hairs into my painting

I swapped with someone on here last week for a brush set that looked barely used, but after two strokes the bristles started falling out mid-painting. Has anyone else dealt with brushes that shed on you and found a way to fix them or just toss em?

Ugh that sucks. Try a quick dip in warm water and hairspray to seal the ferrule.

Hold on, hairspray? You put hairspray on a painting ferrule? That sounds like an accident waiting to happen. I'd be worried about the chemicals reacting with the paint or the metal over time. I mean, I've heard of people using clear nail polish in a pinch, but hairspray seems awfully sticky and it might attract dust and dirt later on. Does that actually hold up for long, or does it just get gummy after a few weeks?
