Serious question, I thought the "free box" at my local art store in Oak Park was junk until I found 3 usable tubes in there
Two months ago I walked past the free box at the art store on Oak Park Ave and figured it was just dried out crusty tubes and broken pastel nubs. Then I actually dug through it and walked out with 3 half-full tubes of acrylic, a decent liner brush, and a sketchbook with about 40 blank pages left. Since then I've checked it every time and found something worth taking maybe 1 out of 3 visits. My buddy says it's just other people's trash and he won't touch it, that free supplies are never actually free once you count the time spent digging. I see his point but I've saved probably $60 in supplies so far. So which is it, is the free box a goldmine or a waste of 10 minutes? Curious how the free piles look at other stores.
