I was hoarding paint tubes like a dragon for 2 years and a kid's art class in Boise finally snapped me out of it
So here's the dumb thing I did. I had this plastic tote under my desk filled with probably 40 tubes of acrylic paint, most of them half gone or dried at the cap, and I kept telling myself I'd use them up someday. Every time I thought about giving them away I'd get this little panic feeling like what if I need that exact shade of burnt sienna next week. Then 6 months ago I volunteered to help with a free art class at the library here in Boise, and we ran out of red halfway through the second session. These kids were mixing crayon shavings into glue trying to make it work. I went home that night, opened the tote, and realized I had 3 barely touched tubes of cadmium red sitting right there the whole time. I brought the whole box in the next week and one girl looked at me like I handed her a puppy. I'm not saying I'm cured of hoarding supplies but now I keep a little box by the door for stuff I haven't touched in 6 months. Does anybody else have a rule for when to let a tube go, or do you just wait until it turns into a rock?
