Half used tube of Winsor Blue that sat for 8 years, now it works better than new
Found a tube of Winsor Blue in my mom's basement last weekend, crusty cap and all. The paint inside had separated into a watery mess on top and a stiff paste at the bottom, so I squeezed a marble size onto a scrap board and stirred it with a palette knife for about 2 minutes. Took it out to my balcony in the September sun and painted a quick sky study, and the color was smoother and more transparent than the fresh tubes I bought last month from the shop on 7th Avenue. The binder had settled with age, but that slow separation actually broke up the pigment clumps that always gave me streaky washes. Has anyone else revived old tubes this way, or is there a trick with adding a drop of water or medium that I should try next time?

Wait, did you test it on paper that was already dry, or did you wet the paper first? Cause if the settled binder is giving you smoother washes on dry paper, that changes everything for me.
