Found a weird use for old dried-out gouache and it saved my palette

I had like 8 half-empty tubes of gouache that were crusty and unusable, plus a bunch of scrap watercolor paper nobody wanted. Instead of tossing them, I soaked the dried chunks in a jar of water overnight and turned them into a sort of liquid watercolor wash. Mixed it with a little gum arabic I found in my sister's old kit and used it to prime a sketchbook cover. The colors came out muddy but honestly perfect for a background layer, and it kept 3 tubes from the landfill. Has anyone else tried reviving dried paint with water and a binder, or do you just give up and swap those out too?

Gum arabic in your sister's old kit? That's oddly specific and kind of brilliant.
