Decided to test student grade paint against a brand name tube for a mural
I had a half-used tube of cheap craft acrylic and a fresh tube of Liquitex for a mural I was painting on plywood last month. I used the cheap stuff for the sky and the Liquitex for the foreground details to see if there was a real difference. The cheap paint took three coats to cover and cracked a bit where I layered it thick, while the Liquitex stayed solid with one coat. Has anyone else swapped around paint brands on a big project and regretted or loved the results?

THREE coats for the sky and it STILL cracked? That's wild to me. I've used cheap craft paint for quick garage projects but never on anything that mattered, and hearing it crack like that makes me want to stick with the good stuff forever. Liquitex is pricey but sounds like you got exactly what you paid for.
